Get More Out of Life

Broaden Your Horizons

Knowledge facilitates richer experiences and opportunities.  New experiences facilitate richer lives.  Push the limits and discover your true talents.  “Learning time is not a respected part of the work environment.  But you can’t be so busy that you allow yourself to get stupid.”  Tom Kelley, Cisco Systems

Go For It!

Do at least one thing every day that scares you.  Don’t’ be afraid to reach for more.  We could do it all if only we dared to go for it.  Don’t let fear paralyze you.

Shift your perspective.

You can respect and learn from people, even if you don’t like them.  Believe that you can learn something from everyone, because every person in the world knows something you don’t know.

Live with love and passion.

Don’t pass up an opportunity to tell people you care about them.  You may never get another chance.  Love unconditionally without any expectations.  Be loving and passionate towards yourself, others and your goals.  Love and passion are motivating and inspirational.

Ask for help.  Ask for a raise.  Ask for more.  Ask for what you need.  Ask for what you want.  The worst that can happen is being told no.

Laugh -- a lot!

It can be a great stress relief! It’s fun and good for you!

Set boundaries.

Learn to say no.  Reduce those tolerations in your life that are not serving you.  What you put up with keeps you from being yourself and evolving as a human being.  Lighten up your load.

Live for today.

To be fully present is to have no preoccupations with past or future.  View each day as a gift and reflect on all of the good in your life.  Choose to be grateful for all that you have.

Forgive more, judge less.

People won’t stay mad at you long if you can say, “I was wrong, and I am truly sorry.  I hope that you will forgive me.”  Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future.”  Paul Boese.

Live with purpose.

Purpose gives meaning to our lives.  It changes our attitudes about life.  “We need to offer our voice, our way.  It may be that our particular gifts manifest as caring for children or in law, commerce, music,  computer networking, or gardening.  It is not a matter of what the building block is, but of allowing our  unique and singular voice to move in harmony with a living purpose.”  Jack Kornfield.

There is no such thing as the perfect person.  Choose to find the best in everyone as we face our own challenges in life.  “We judge each other so quickly, yet know so little about what another carries in his or her heart.  We must offer to all the same respect we would give ourselves and those we cherish.  The impatient, angry, inconvenient, difficult, temperamental can teach us compassion, tolerance, and understanding.”  Jack Kornfield
